In the aftermath of Saturday's win over Utah State, did anything improve?
The Cougar offense struggled at times with USU's zone, but big shots by Mark Bigelow broke the game wide open. On the other hand, Kevin Woodberry has six assists and no turnovers and operated more like a point guard in this game. His defense was solid and he got his hands on a lot of balls, causing some Aggie problems.
The Aggies did a good job defending the post and taking Jared Jensen out of the game.
One item on the leftover table was my own personal piano note I like to play. In this game you saw how Stew Morrill masterfully worked the officials. Like Rick Majerus, he makes them aware and conscious of how he feels about their whistles, trends of the game, how it is called. On the other hand, Steve Cleveland did get wound up a few times, but on a few occassions I thought he should have worked it even harder. If he doesn't do this to send a signal to his players, the player will take it upon themselves to bitch and moan about calls and get frustrated when they get whistled or teed.
Morrill knows how to do this. He knows when to protest hard and loud and when to back off when he gets their attention. BYU is now 7-1. How good will they be before MWC play?
