The big guy received top MWC honors.
Junior Rafael Araujo is the Mountain West Conference's men's basketball player of the week after the Cougars posted a 1-1 record last week.
The Brazilian star received the first honor of this kind in his career after he averaged 20.5 points and 12 rebounds in two games last week. He also shot 61 percent (19 of 31) from the field and averaged two steals per game.
In the 84-72 loss to San Francisco last Monday, Araujo recorded his first double double with career highs of 24 points and 17 rebounds in 28 minutes. He went 11 for 20 from the field (55 percent) and registered a career-high three steals. the 17 boards and 11 field goals tied for the second-highest output by a MWC player this year. Araujo led the Cougars in scoring the second straight game with 17 points on 8 of 11 field goals and seven boards in the 93-50 win over Southern Utah. |
