COUGARBLUE2
It's mere hours before BYU lines up for its final game of the season, and the Cougars are still searching for an essential part of their offense: a leader.
During the first three games, Matt Berry seemed to have control of the offense and the leadership capabilities to lead this team to success. After coming back from his injured hand, however, Berry has been less than spectacular, and he hasn't been able to lead the team like a quarterback should.
No one else has stepped up on the offensive side of the ball, either, which, in my opinion, has led to their dismal outings game in and game out this season. Without a leader, the offense simply can't learn how to produce.
Going into the game against Utah today, the Cougars need to find even a temporary leader because the Utes, though I hate to say it, are very good. The offense can't have another subpar outing and expect the defense to keep them in this one. Utah is too explosive on the offensive side of the ball.
Unfortunately, I don't see how BYU can find such a leader so quickly. But I can give a suggestion for who I think could lead the team next year: Jackson Brown. Brown at least needs to be given his chance to lead this team. I know Coach Crowton said that he will play Brown only if will help the Cougars have a chance to win, but if BYU gets behind big again, I hope they play Brown so that he has his chance to show what he can do.
Though I hate to admit it, I believe that the Cougars will suffer one of the worst losses to Utah in recent history. If BYU gets ahead early and keeps the game close going into the fourth quarter, there is a chance for the Cougars to pull the upset. But it will take a lot of things going right that have been going wrong all season for BYU to win this game.
My pick: Utah 45, BYU 11
