I just wanted to give props to sunsfrk for taking the time to set up the petition at http://www.petitiononline.com/MWCSPORT/petition.html. I'm one of the proud signers (94 strong at the time I'm writing this) and I desperately want to see that number grow to thousands strong. That's why I'm inviting everyone to not just get on board and sign, but to go as far as possible. Get family members to sign up, friends, co-workers, neighbors, everyone you can think of.
Some may say that it won't do any good and they might be right. But I refuse to consign myself to that and I don't think anyone else should either. If we don't get the Cougar (and Horned Frog and Ram and Aztec and *gulp* even the Ute) nation to show that though most of us live in areas less populated than those of other teams, we still are a contingent to be reckoned with, then who will? I've seen national football commentators note how attention to a BYU-related issue will flood an inbox (ala 2001 and the lack of a BCS bid). Dolphin fans recently noted how rabidly Cougars defend there own as hundreds invaded Miami message boards to shout down the Brady Quinn whiners and defend their man Beck as he makes the next step. Not only that but I've talked to the BYU athletics department and the official Cougar Web site got more hits during the 2006 football season than just about any in the country! As supporters of the school that has won a national footbal title and had a Heisman Trophy winner, BYU fans have to lead this charge relentlessly and cohesively. Of course any support from fans of other schools in this common cause is welcome and wanted, but I believe Cougar followers will be the ones to get this done. So take the first step by using whatever networking abilities you have at your disposal to get the word out. |
