BYU in No. 2 slot in MWC preseason media poll PDF Print E-mail

LAS VEGAS — BYU, the 2006 Mountain West Conference champion, was picked second by the media in the annual preseason polls at the league's meetings on Monday.

The Cougars finished with 178 points and three first-place votes. TCU, the 2005 champ, was picked to win the conference with 202 total points and 18 of the 23 first-place votes. Utah (165 points, two first-place votes), was voted third.

Four BYU players made the All-MWC preseason team: Offensive linemen Sete Aulai and Dallas Reynolds, linebacker Bryan Kehl and safety Quinn Gooch. TCU's Aaron Brown was selected as Offensive Player of the Year and teammate Tommy Blake was named Defensive Player of the Year.

Utah kicker Louie Sakoda was tabbed as Special Teams Player of the Year and Colorado State linebacker Ricky Brewer was voted Freshman of the Year.
